    Dr. Rick Catterwell

    Urological Surgeon (Robotic & Laparoscopic)
    MBBS, AFRACMA, MMiS, FRACS (Urol)

    Rick graduated from the Adelaide Medical School in 2003 and was awarded fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015. He completed international fellowships in kidney stone surgery (India and Malaysia) and the prestigious advanced oncology and robotics fellowship at Guy’s Hospital, London. He remained at Guy’s Hospital, the leading robotic surgery hospital in the United Kingdom, for a further two years as a consultant specialising in kidney and prostate surgery.

    Since returning to Adelaide, Rick has been a consultant urologist at the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Adelaide Hospitals. His subspecialty interests include robotic surgery of the kidney, prostate, and bladder along with complex stone disease. He is the clinical lead for urology at the QEH, state chair for urology training, and deputy chair for the bi-national Board of Urology. Rick volunteers in global health projects, participating in the first international urological surgical team to operate in Tuvalu. His passion for teaching was recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as the most outstanding trainer and mentor in 2022.

    Rick has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and authored six book chapters, including the prostate chapter for the renowned anatomy textbook, Gray’s Anatomy. He has lectured on and demonstrated surgical techniques in over ten countries.

    Outside of work Rick enjoys adventure travel, mountain climbing, photography, gardening and the Mighty Adelaide Crows.

    Dr. Tom Cundy

    Urological Surgeon (Adult & Paediatric)
    MBBS BMedSci (Adel), PhD (Imp Lond), FRACS (Urol)

    Tom is a locally trained urological surgeon. He graduated with honours from the Adelaide Medical School, and then travelled to the United Kingdom as a John Monash Scholar to complete a PhD in surgical robotics at Imperial College London. On returning home to Adelaide, he commenced surgical training, first in paediatric surgery and then urology. After being awarded fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, he returned to the United Kingdom to complete a sub-specialty fellowship in paediatric urology at the Southampton Children’s Hospital.

    Tom has a broad practice covering all aspects of adult and paediatric general urology. He consults at North Adelaide, Glenelg and Naracoorte. Public hospital appointments are held at Flinders Medical Centre and Naracoorte Hospital.

    He is an accomplished clinical academic, having published more than 70 original peer-reviewed scientific articles and regularly reviews manuscripts for urology journals. This active involvement with research helps him maintain an up-to-date evidence-based practice and stay current with the latest advancements.

    Outside of work, Tom enjoys supporting his three kids with their busy sport activity programmes. When he can, he also likes playing tennis and going to Bunnings.

    Dr. Adi Sharma

    Urological Surgeon (Robotic & Laparoscopic)
    MbChB, BSc, DipClinAnat, FRACS (Urol)

    Adi is an experienced urological surgeon providing all aspects of general urology care. He has a strong interest in surgical oncology and maintains a high-volume practice of open and ‘keyhole’ minimally invasive cancer surgery.

    He graduated with distinction from Otago Medical School in New Zealand as a scholarship holder, then obtained a wide breadth of experience in general surgery, vascular surgery and intensive care medicine before completing the urology accredited training programme and becoming a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He has undertaken advanced laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgery fellowship training at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and Royal Adelaide Hospital. He is actively involved in surgical education and is a board member of the training selection committee for the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand.

    Adi believes in providing a holistic approach to care with passion and understanding. Private operation locations are offered at the Calvary Adelaide, Calvary Central Districts and Ashford Hospitals. He holds public hospital appointments at the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals. He is multi-lingual and can provide consultations in Hindi, Marathi and Telugu languages.

    Outside of work, Adi enjoys playing and writing music, is a gym and fitness enthusiast, and avid cricketer.
